Broadway Calls to Release Split 7-Inch With Teenage BottlerocketWest Hollywood, California - In an interview with Buzznet at this year's Warped Tour kickoff party, pop-punkers Broadway Calls revealed their plans to record a split 7-inch with Laramie, Wyoming's Teenage Bottlerocket.
"Adeline is doing a 7-inch split with us and Teenage Bottlerocket," drummer Josh Baird explained, referring to the label co-owned by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong "On [April 14], we start recording with the dudes from Comadre to get that done." ![]() Broadway Calls opened the Warped kickoff party after having participated in their first press conference in their career. "It was weird," vocalist and guitarist Ty Vaughn admitted. "I seriously thought I was going to throw up all over Katy Perry while Kevin Lyman was talking." The band, which signed to Adeline Records earlier this year, has toured extensively since forming in late 2005. This year is no exception, as the guys will be heading out for every date of the Vans Warped Tour, which is a first for Broadway Calls. The band reportedly was invited on the summer tour after Billie Joe from Green Day passed their record on to Kevin Lyman. Josh elaborated: "So what we heard is that Billie Joe...you know, since we're such good friends with Billie Joe...he gave the CD to Kevin [Lyman], and now we're on Warped." Ty commented, "That's awesome. If it's all true, it's awesome." ![]() The band also debuted their new music video, "Call It Off," here on Buzznet last week. Filmed in Redding, California, the video properly captures the intensity of a Broadway Calls live show. "Our manager showed a film company the pictures [of Set It Straight's last show] and they were like, 'Let's re-create that,' " Josh said. "I mean, that's all we wanted to do was a performance video. That's what it is. We played the song 10 times, I think." "Yeah, we played like, six or seven times in a row," Ty added. "We played it live, but we played it to the correct tempo, so it could match up with the CD. Then we played a regular set, so the kids wouldn't get too bored." (Click on the picture below to watch "Call It Off.") ![]() Touring mostly with hardcore bands, the guys in Broadway Calls find themselves more attracted to pop music than aggressive music. "I listen to mostly pop," Ty explained. "I barely listen to hardcore or metal. We started playing this kind of music because we've always listened to it." When asked if playing in Countdown to Life (Ty and Josh's previous hardcore band) or Broadway Calls made more sense, Ty replied, "I mean, they both made sense to me, to us. We do like that kind of music and we were able to play because we liked that genre. This does make more sense, I guess, when you look at our playlists."
