Standoff between Peaceful protestors and LAPD

At around 8:50PM, a peaceful group of about 150 protestors were milling about on Alvarado between 7th Street and Wilshire. A group of LAPD in riot gear had decided to "face off" with this group of people who had every right to be in the street for an organized protest. The police were opening up Wilshire Blvd, but none of the people in this video were on that street.

If you notice, the people who were protesting were simply standing there; a few even had their backs turned to the police. There were no threats issued, nothing was thrown, and the LAPD faced no immediate danger.

these kind of confrontations suck, people will overreact on both sides invariably. to play devil's advocate though, people have a right to peacefully assemble but they don't have a right to occupy city streets and other facilities whenever they want to. did they have a permit to be using the street at this time? etc.

you say they have a permit, that's crazy for the cops to act that way then - I hven't seen any mention of this nationally (yet)
